The child of the northern woods

The history of the Finnish nation is inseparably associated with the forest reindeer. Deer skins, bones and antlers had been important materials to make clothes, dwellings, and tools since time immemorial. By the end of the 19th century, the forest reindeer had been almost exterminated in the territory of Finland. Fortunately in the 20th century the population of forest reindeer began restoring, and is not threatened with extinction at the moment.
